The CHU Sainte-Justine Epilepsy Clinic includes a multidisciplinary team to diagnose, monitor and treat children suffering from epilepsy. This multidisciplinary team aims to provide the most appropriate treatment to children and adolescents suffering from epilepsy. The clinic also treats cognitive disorders and psycho-emotional disorders as well as their social consequences.

The Epilepsy Clinic treats simple epilepsy for clinical research purposes, especially at genetic level.

When antiepileptic drugs are ineffective, cases of intractable epilepsy are analysed by the entire team in order to determine if the children can be helped through an operative treatment, a ketogenic diet or palliative surgery (vagal nerve stimulation by an implant).

The medical team is multidisciplinary and work in conjunction with the Neurosurgery and Pathology Departments.

The CHU Sainte-Justine clinic also works in close consultation with the epilepsy team of the Notre-Dame Hospital of Montreal.

The Epilepsy Clinic includes 4 specialised sub-clinics:

  • the first convulsions clinic
  • the ketogenic diet clinic
  • the febrile convulsions clinic
  • the genetics epilepsy clinic
